Style Challenge: The Matrix
This Style Challenge has our team diving into The Matrix in their own unique way.
Red or blue?
Well whatever you choose, please join us as we enter our next Style Challenge: The Matrix. This go round our challengers were asked to create an outfit based on The Matrix. The goal was all black and edgy as f__k. The Matrix as we learned in our las article how influential The Matrix was to early 2000’s fashion. For example a lot of artists would emulate the look in their way as a way to make a statement. To show that they’re different, that they’re cool, and proudly going against the norm! So we wanted to see if some of our team could emulate that themselves and, I truly love what they came up with.
Here we have the incredibly dope and hilarious Aysia as she brings something fun and unexpected to the challenge. Her personality always comes through in her own unique way and it’s frankly always a hit.
Always gotta love a little bit of skin, especially when it’s still on theme. This picture absolutely gives off Matrix energy and it’s so great in a few ways. for one the glasses are such a great piece to drive home what the look way trying to convey. You may not know this but I am a huge fan of the “tiny top and baggy pants” combo. Yet I would have not thought to utilize it for this theme, so I appreciate Aysia’s creativity for this. When people hear “edgy” they think to go over the top when edgy can still in fact be something so simple, and easy. |
Did you know Aysia is a yogi? Wel now you know, and she really took this opportunity to lean into that to further push personality in her outfit. Also great to know that her outfit leaves room for movement. Movability is really important when getting dressed. Especially for me. |
Red or blue… candle? This was such a fun dip into her personality in a way that still honors the theme. The entire image absolutely convey The Matrix, the all black sleek outfit, the tiny black shades, the candles, the stylish “I mean business” boots and the pose in of itself. So in this look she took a more tailored look to the theme. The tank top, and tight pants fit a more closely connected look that we did see a few time throughout the movie. Edgy is also very sleek, and very clean. And the simplicity of both outfits that still give personality bring the concept together really well. |
This jacket is everything. It gives me a very Black Panthers feel, which fits into going against the norm. And when you think about it, The Matrix was a movie based in going against society, going against the norm and making a statement. Bringing in this jacket absolutely brings that to light here. This is definitely a statement. I am in love with the creativity being expressed here. Everything about this jacket alone makes a huge statement. And it can have a lingering discomfort on societal views. Aysia definitely understood the assignment and I’m here for it. |
So the most fun I’ve had going through this weeks submissions was seeing all the poses. All the creativity, and the posing is unmatched.
Our Next Top Model, Chi-Chi really came through with the energy. I look at this photo and immediately think The Matrix. Do you see the creative use of accessories? That ribbon is a paid actor I’m sure of it. I enjoy how both Chi and Aysia both gave a baggy look. It’s such an easy way to convey an edgier look, as well fitted and tailored is more so what is appreciated and valued in society. The pose she chose here really allows you to see aspects of the clothings silhouette and how the pants drape and flow so comfortably. Although the shirt is a bit tighter in its fit, it still works well with the choice of pants here. While finished off with the ting shades, and the “I mean business” boots. |
The creativity jumped out and didnt come to play. Also the paid actor ribbon really came to work for that paycheck. Chi does Pilates and you can tell from that core work in this pose. Between her and Aysia I am inspired to move my body. This pose also lets you really see the drapery of the pants here. The legs are so wide and flows and create such an interesting silhouette to the outfit. There’s also some hint to how flows rage shirt can be as well. Another extremely simple but still very edgy outfit. The boots add a level of chic and sophistication to the outfit that brings more interest to the outfit as a whole. And the tiny glasses of course is the icing on top of the cake. |
Both also gave up tighter fit outfits as well. I love how unconsciously in sync this challenge was for them. Here Chi pretty much gave us the more typical thought to edgy that we would get. Rage sheer tight bodysuit, the slouchy heels, the whole thing is absolutely very edgy. It’s absolutely against the norm, you can see skin, in a delightfully tasteful way. It’s doing a lot and still not too much at the same time. The essence gives The Matrix in the same way that celebrities in the 2000’s would portray it. Edgy, sexy and cool. |
Here we get a better look into the front of the bodysuit. Where the sheer and the solid meet gives a bit of elegance. That off the shoulder is a romantic look. Previously I noted how this look gives 2000’s celebrity outfit. Which I can definitely see this at an award show to make a statement. |
I really enjoyed the creativity that was showcased in this weeks challenge. It is giving a lot of what we wanted when it comes to these challenges. Fun and creativity. I appreciate how they tried to embody everything about The Matrix, from the outfits, to the poses, the entire look really was giving.
We cant wait to show you what else we have in the future, and we hope that you enjoyed this article.
