Style Challenge: Goth
Show up, show out. One time, for the one time please. This is the first in our Style Challenge series. This is where we will have our team demonstrate particular concepts in their own styles, to show the variety of ways something can be portrayed.
Show up, show out. One time, for the one time please.
Welcome to our Style Challenge series here at The Velvyt. Where we simply just want you to show off your immaculate style. Our mission after all is to showcase and inspire. So here’s how this goes:
We showcase some of our incredibly awesome and fashionable friends, and they show off what they got. They are given a prompt/style guide of the genaral look category that are supposed to be portraying in their individual styles. We want to show off how there is no one way to dress, you can pull style inspiration from anywhere. All you have to do is make it your own. Thats why we created this series, to show off how versatile personal style can be.
This week we wanted to show off the variety of ways that Modern/Casual Goth can be portrayed. Yes, there are so many subgenres to Goth in of itself, but no two people are gonna translate it in the same way… or at least we hope not. We have five challengers to show off today, so let’s enjoy the show.
First up we have the beautiful Aysia, twitterly known as @aysian_diaries. Bringing us her incredible fun more rock inspired looks. And bringing us so much fun energy! twitter: @aysian_diaries | twitter: @aysian_diaries Goth has a lot of branch offs, into the Rock/Alternative subculture. So Aysia brought that to us in her looks. All of the fun rebellious energy that comes from Grunge, Punk, Alternative etc. all different forms of Goth. |
twitter: @aysian_diaries | There are so many incredible ways to interpret the Goth aesthetic. You can be more into the rocker side of things or you can go all out with a modern vampire look. Our friends have provide a range of looks with their interpretations and in their own unique styles. Style is all about interpretation, and interpretation is something that is very individualistic to everyone. We hope that you see everyone’s styles and it inspires you to try something new for yourself. |
Nest up we have Brandon @Prettiman himself, and yes that is his real name. Here to bring us some of the dopest pieces he has to offer his closet. | @prettiman This look was heavily vampire inspired, which a lot of Goth subculture pulls from. Its the eccentricity, and statement of the pieces used. Finding room for velvet and snake print is a fun way to spin the Goth look, as well as bring in some color and texture. |
Let’s welcome in the mysterious and ethereal Chi-Chi @vitaminchex. Bringing us a more mysterious take on the Goth look. This traditional Goth look with a more modern undertones. The look channels the origins of Goth, with a very mournful essence. very ‘memento mori’. very Goth. | Chi-Chi’s look also gives strong Phantom of the Opera, which is a cult classic in that hemisphere of culture. Very dark and very brooding. As we transition insto our next flexxer, let’s remember that sometimes styles can be interwoven. You dont have to completely stick in one realm when a style resonates with you. definitely feel free too play around and see where it may land for you. |
Maybe you really resonate with the aspect of lifes macbre, but maybe not the typical ways that Goth has been portrayed. Thats cool too. And theres room for that. Remember that Steam-Punk and CyberGoth also dont looks like what your typical depictions of Goth look like. Doesnt make them any less Goth in nature. Which brings us to Khaos, @ThereWasKhaos_ (featured below). The interpretation of Goth that he went with was heavily in the hemisphere of streetwear. |
And last but certainly not least we have Tina also known as @Jujutsubby. The blue hair is very on brand with the typical aesthetic that comes with the Goth look. Tina took a more modern look for Goth for sure, with the harness being a great touch.
The chunky boots, and overflow of chains, is more of what we have grown to associate with the Goth aesthetic in more recent years. Tina pulls together the look incredibly well. |
We here at The Velvyt, certainly hope that you all enjoyed our first episode in the “Style Challenge” series. Again the goal here is to show the variety of ways a style can be interpreted and expanded upon. You’re not as confined as you may think. We want to encourgae you to be adventurous and try new things, all while learning and drawing inspiration into finding your own uniques styel. I promise we absolutely have more of these to come.
Let’s give it up for our amazing and incredible challengers and we’ll talk soon!
